Where prices come from, how comparisons are calculated and their limitations.
Data sources
fuelglance loads prices from the public Spritpreisverlauf interface (spritpreisverlauf.at), where collection and processing take place: through the fuelglance server when a page is opened, then directly in your browser. Available countries and stations depend on that dataset. Failed requests are shown; no substitute data is used.
A station’s region also comes from this interface; Spritpreisverlauf determines it from the postcode, using postcode data from GeoNames and, for the United Kingdom, the ONS Postcode Directory (via postcodes.io). Median and regional comparison
The median is the middle recorded price, not a volume-weighted average. Regional comparisons use the same fuel in the same region and country. Search lists calculate medians before filtering search results. Stale and implausible prices are excluded. Missing values remain unknown.
Currencies and exchange rates
EUR, GBP, AUD and USD can be selected independently of the country. All prices are per litre. Prices are converted from their original currency using historical ECB reference rates. Weekends use the previous available rate, at most seven days earlier. Missing rates prevent conversion; future rates are never used.
Period and change
Change compares the first and last available observations. For 50 litres, the per-litre difference is multiplied by 50. Converted histories also include exchange-rate movements. A past trend is neither a forecast nor a guaranteed saving.
Freshness and opening hours
“Recorded” means the retrieval time, not necessarily a price change. Opening status uses regular weekly hours and the station’s local time, including overnight opening. Holidays and temporary changes may differ. Missing hours remain unknown.
International comparisons
The country comparison shows all available countries in one currency. Petrol grades such as E5 and E10, collection methods and coverage can differ. The border comparison currently covers Austria–Germany and Austria–Italy. For an actual journey, station prices and extra travel costs matter.
Independent ranking
Results can be sorted by price or name. Saving a station does not affect ranking. This version has no paid placements or registration.
